"With the challenges this pandemic brings there are also opportunities for engineering educators to contribute to solutions, and in particular to get our students involved in such efforts. In this way we are working to educate graduates that know how to put their skills and knowledge to work in the service of communities and indeed the nation to help get all of our lives back to normal.
We have chosen two particular areas to focus on this year: Together with our College of Nursing we have groups of students examine the effectiveness of different types of face masks as well as study how different styles of wearing masks can affect their efficiency. In a second group of projects students will be studying UV-light based methods to reduce pathogen loads in HVAC systems."
